MyCAA Approved Paralegal Studies Diploma

The MyCAA approved paralegal programs at Brighton College prepare students for a career as a paralegal. Paralegals are employed in all kinds of companies; however the majority are employed by law firms, business legal departments, and different government offices.

The Paralegal Diploma program offers a foundation in legal studies. Upon effective completion of the Paralegal Diploma, you will be able to: use research tools and techniques required to find the law, rules and regulation, prepare professional legal files, establish case files, interview experts or witnesses, carry out investigations and show a broad knowledge of litigation practice, law and treatment. We teach core knowledge in the following areas of law: business law, criminal law, real property, torts, and contracts.

This MyCAA Approved Paralegal Studies program is not a degree level program. The courses completed within this program earn college credit and may be eligible to transfer into the Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies program at Brighton College.

Students enrolling in the diploma program typically already have a bachelor’s degree and want to expand their career opportunity or wish to change professions altogether.

Upon effective completion of the MyCAA Approved Paralegal Studies core program students will have the ability to:

  • Determine main and secondary sources of the law;
  • Use study devices and methods needed to find the law;
  • Prepare written legal analysis determining issues in a case, the policy of law, application, counterarguments and conclusions;
  • Prepare professional legal files;
  • Develop case files;
  • Job interview specialists or witnesses;
  • Carry out examinations and demonstrate a broad understanding of litigation practice, law and treatment;
  • Acquire core knowledge in the following areas of law: business law, criminal law, real estate, torts, and agreements.

Certification offers the kind of recognition that can set graduates apart from others in the field. The chance to be designated as a Qualified Legal Assistant (CLA) is supplied by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA).

Examinations leading to the CLA are given regularly to those students who have actually successfully finished recognized training programs. The Paralegal Institute is a member of NALA and both the diploma and the associate degree programs satisfy the instructional requirements of this nationwide screening organization.
