Marine Wife Benefits

Whether you’re married to a Marine Helicopter Pilot, an Ammunition Technician, or a Marine Band Musician, you know what it is to move again and again. These moves are always stressful, especially when you have to deal with finding yet another job at another new base.

If you and your Marine spouse are younger and still at the lower ranks, you now have Marine spouse benefits that can help you find a better job with more employment possibilities throughout your Marine’s career.

The Department of Defense has designed a scholarship program for military wives. This is designed to help Marine families become more economically strong, thus increasing force readiness.

The Marine MyCAA Scholarship Program

The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) helps cover the cost of Marine spouses’ training for portable careers – careers that will be easily transferred and more readily available in more places.

This includes certain two-year associate’s degrees, certificates, or credentials. The Marine wife benefits program includes money amounting to $4,000 at $2,000 per year.

Which Marine Wives Are Eligible

The MyCAA program is for spouses of E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2 Marines who are:

  • Active Duty
  • Deployed Reservists
  • Severely ill, injured, wounded, or killed in action

Spouses that are on active duty or legally separated are not eligible.

Eligibility for Training Programs

The MyCAA scholarship is for certain programs of study for jobs that the Marines consider portable. For instance, no studies leading to general or liberal arts associate’s degrees are qualified. The degree must be finished within three years, or in the case of a Reservist, within 180 days after de-mobilization.

Spouses must be careful to enroll in an approved school. You can request that a school be covered, but if you enroll before it is, you will be responsible for payment in full. Be sure to have a MyCAA Financial Assistance document before enrollment.

What Is Covered

Not all expenses are covered by the scholarship. It does pay for tuition and credential and licensure fees, but not things like transportation, computers, or childcare.

If they are part of your course costs, the scholarship will pay for your books, supplies, or necessary equipment.

Enrollment in the Marine MyCAA Program

If you want to participate in the MyCAA program as part of your Marine wife benefits, visit the MyCAA Scholarship Home. Simply create an account to open the portal or receive information, career and placement counseling, and enrollment forms.

Also, remember to take advantage of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society scholarship for Navy and Marine families. Spouses are qualified.

Enroll as one of the one-in-five spouses who uses the MyCAA Marine wife benefits. You and your family will be glad you did.
