The Marine Corps base at Quantico, or the “Crossroads of the Marine Corp”, is home to the Marine Corps Officer Candidates School, as well as FBI training and Drug Enforcement Administration training. The military first used this land during the revolutionary war and in 1917, Marine Corps barracks were erected on the spot. In 1920 it became home to many different Marine Corps schools which are now the Marine Corps University.
This base is known for having been the birthplace of the first Marine Aircraft Wing and Helicopter squadron, HMX-1, which caters to the president. There are over 12,000 people living on this base and the majority of them Â are a part of the Corps’ Combat Development Command.
