Floris Books

Floris Books is an independent publisher based in Edinburgh and the largest children’s book publisher in Scotland. In 2016 Floris won the Saltire Society Scottish Publisher of the Year. We publish the Kelpies imprint, which includes Scottish books for children of all ages – from tots to teens! Each of our Kelpies ranges is targeted at a specific age group: Wee Kelpies for 1 to 3 year olds, Picture Kelpies for 3 to 6 year olds, Young Kelpies for 6 to 8 year olds, Kelpies for 8 to 12 year olds and KelpiesTeens for 11 to 14 year olds.

Since 2002, when we acquired the original Kelpies list from fellow Scottish publisher Canongate, we have launched the careers of award-winning Scottish children’s authors including Lari Don, Janis Mackay and Alex McCall as well as publishing books by literary greats such as Theresa Breslin, Joan Lingard and Cathy MacPhail.

We’ve also launched five new ranges of Kelpies books to cover all age groups, finally achieving our ambition of publishing books for tots to teens in 2015.

Floris Books also run the annual Kelpies Prize to encourage and discover new Scottish writing for children.

All of our Kelpies books have a Scottish connection – whether it’s the author, illustrator, characters, storyline or setting – which makes them very special indeed. But wherever in the world you are, you can enjoy a Kelpie!
